3. Paithani sarees

Paithani sarees are of Maharashtrian origin and are special because they are hand woven. It is also one of the oldest styles of sarees and ages back to approximately 200 B.C. The features of these classy sarees include oblique and square border designs, lotus, mango and peacock designs over the pallu. These sarees come in radiant, vibrant colours. While a particular colour of thread is used to weave the saree vertically, another coloured thread is used to weave it horizontally. The pallu of these sarees, in particular,make the icing of the cake as they are sometimes embellished with gems as well as pearls. It does take a lot of time to weave a Paithani saree.

4. Mysore silk sarees



Mysore, Karnataka is the house of Mysore silk sarees and produces those exquisite sarees at KSIC. What makes these sarees special and quite expensive at the same time is the purity of the silk and the threads of gold and silver that are used. The purest form of zari has 65% of silver and about 0.65% gold in it and is used to create motifs such as florals, mango designs at borders, buttis and at the pallu.

5. Maheshwari sarees



Maheshwari sarees hailing from Maheshwar are known to be one among the oldest styles that originated in India. It is highly comfortable and is of light weight in spite of having a fascinating appearance. Shockingly, these sarees are reversible and can be worn as two different sarees. Cotton and silk are the two materials in which these sarees are made.


  • Price: Rs. 1000 – Rs. 30,000 based on the mixing of cotton with silk.
